Another Met Gala in the books, so how did they do on theme?

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 04:23:55 GMT

NEW YORK (AP) — In vintage couture and a world of Chanel-inspired camellias. In pearls, chains and black ties, especially those worn by women, the A-list crowd at the Met Gala largely passed muster in embracing Karl Lagerfeld, the man of the evening on fashion’s biggest night. Most. Not all. Over-the-top dressing on the first Monday in May isn’t dead. Misinterpreting or outright ignoring the night’s dress code isn’t buried. But this time around, there was an air of respect, a nod to authenticity “in honor of Karl,” as the fundraising party’s visionary, Anna Wintour, requested.“Because the theme was so specific, it practically demanded elegance, which is why so many looked so good. But what was most surprising was to see how other designers paid homage to the master with riffs on his iconic trademarks,” said Hal Rubenstein, a fashion writer, designer and one of the founding editors of InStyle magazine.Lagerfeld, the man, the photographer, the publisher, the de...

Election denier Jim Marchant to run for Senate in Nevada

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 04:23:55 GMT

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Jim Marchant, a Nevada Republican who led a movement of candidates who promoted Donald Trump’s lies of a stolen 2020 election, was set to announce Tuesday that he will run for the U.S. Senate against Democratic incumbent Jacky Rosen in the swing state.Marchant advertised a “special announcement” at a Las Vegas church, where screens displayed “Jim Marchant U.S. Senate Nevada.”The entrance of Marchant, who lost last year’s race for Nevada secretary of state, may be another headache for national Republicans who are trying to prevent a repeat of the midterms, when voters in Nevada and other battleground states rejected candidates who ran on election conspiracies, allowing Democrats to increase their hold on the Senate.Democrats face an even tougher environment to keep their slim majority in 2024. Nevada is likely to be one of the nation’s most competitive Senate races after hosting the closest contest of 2022. Democratic incumbent Catherine Corte...

Caught on camera: Thieves use rope to pull ATM out of bar

DENVER (KDVR) -- Early Tuesday morning near Bayaud and Pennsylvania, three thieves used a truck and rope to pull a bolted-down ATM outside of Spot Bar and Grill. “It's just violating,” Meagan Maly, the bar's general manager, said. The whole thing was caught on camera. The video shows one of the suspects breaking the glass door to get into the bar. The thief never hit the lock on the door, which Maly said is why the alarm wasn't originally triggered. The suspect inside went straight to the ATM and attempted to pick it up before appearing to realize the ATM was bolted to the ground. Maly said while that was happening, a red truck backed up onto the curb just outside the front door and another suspect brings a rope inside. Colorado is dropping in US News and World Report’s best states rankings "He put a little lasso on our ATM and hooked up to the truck and pulled it right out through our door, breaking the door," Maly said. From there the video shows the suspects dragging out the AT...
