General Motors raises offer to autoworkers union ahead of UAW bargaining update DETROIT (AP) — United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain is to update members Friday afternoon on progress in contract talks with Detroit’s three automakers as General Motors increased its offer to the union in an effort to end a strike.In a statement, GM said it made an offer Friday with “substantial movement in all key areas in an effort to reach a final agreement with the UAW and get our people back to work.”The company says the offer raises pay for most of the work force to $40.39 per hour, or about $84,000 per year by the end of a four-year contract. That’s a 23% increase over the $32.32 per hour that most factory workers make. Compounded annually it’s 25%.The company also said it reinstated cost of living raises for many employees in the first year of the contract, boosting the pay increase to over 30% by September of 2027. The Pinpoint Weather team has been tracking the heat all week. Friday was expected to be a warm day with temperatures almost 20 degrees above average for this time of year. As of 1:53 p.m. Friday, Denver hit a high temperature of 84 degrees and officially broke a 73-year-old record for Oct. 20 set back in 1950. An hour later, the temperature had risen to 86 degrees, according to National Weather Service observations at Denver International Airport.Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels said it's not abnormal to break records in October. Police search for man who attempted to steal meat, beer from Publix in Miramar Police are on the search for a man who attempted to steal meat from a Publix in Miramar.According to police, surveillance video from Oct. 4 showed the suspect walking through the supermarket with a shopping cart full of meat and beer.Investigators said he walked out without paying for any of it, before an employee stopped the man outside and took everything back. Crews work to put out tractor trailer fire at animal farm in NW Miami-Dade A tractor trailer went up in flames at an animal farm in Northwest Miami-Dade.Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived at the scene at 12200 NW 154th St., Friday afternoon. 7Skyforce hovered over the scene as smoke billowed from the tractor trailer. Crews worked to contain the fire, but the trailer was severely damaged. No injuries were reported.A group of ducks nearby appeared to be unfazed by the flames and smoke.
