BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Batman and the Joker, a man decked out in a full-body lion costume, and another whose head and arms have been replaced by chainsaws. This isn’t Carnival or Comic-Con, but rather the outlandish campaign rally for Argentine presidential candidate Javier Milei. In just a few short years, the right-wing populist Milei went from being a television talking head who garnered high ratings with his unrestrained outbursts against a “political caste” he blamed for Argentina’s perennial economic woes to a frontrunner for the presidency. He even dabbled in cosplay, dressing up as “General AnCap,” short for anarcho-capitalist, at a 2019 event.Just as his candidacy started as a made-for-television spectacle, his followers picked up the baton and have often turned rallies into opportunities to show their devotion to their candidate using props that go viral on social media.Shortly after he first appeared on television, the self-described libertarian grew a cult-like fo...Denver weather: Extra clouds, mild conditions before slow cooldown

All ingredients this Wednesday are coming together to produce a wet and stormy next 24 hours or so across South Florida as an area of low pressure nears Florida from the Gulf of Mexico while a slow-moving warm front lifts north into the area. This will help steer in near-record high atmospheric moisture values, making the setup ripe for heavy rainfall and flooding.Since yesterday, up to 3-7 inches of rain has already fallen and the additional rainfall on top of the wet grounds will only make the situation worse.Fort Lauderdale, as of Tuesday, has now received 101 inches of rainfall, just more than an inch shy of the all-time rainfall record for any given year!A widespread 3-7 inches of rainfall with isolated 10+ inch totals is forecast today into tomorrow across South Florida, so a Flood Watch is in effect for Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.Rain will turn more widespread this afternoon and into tonight, which is when the worst of the weather and the heaviest of the rain is expected....Heavy rainfall hits South Florida as forecast predicts wet and windy weather ahead

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — Senegalese opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has returned to prison after weeks of undergoing medical treatment in the hospital during a hunger strike to protest his detention on charges he says are politically motivated. The announcement comes just days before Senegal’s Supreme Court is due to rule on whether Sonko can take part in the upcoming February election despite being struck from the country’s voter rolls after his conviction on charges of corrupting youth earlier this year.Prison authorities said Sonko’s transfer back to Cap Manuel prison in Dakar on Tuesday took place as “the result of a recommendation by his attending physician.”“Wherever he is detained, the result is the same: President Ousmane Sonko remains a favourite candidate in the presidential election, arbitrarily detained and deprived of his rights by his political opponents,” said El-Malick Ndiaye, the press officer for Sonko’s opposition party.Sonko finished third in ...Polish truckers are in talks with Ukrainian counterparts as they protest unregulated activity

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Polish road transport authorities were holding talks Wednesday with their Ukrainian counterparts over competition grievances that have led Polish truckers to block two border crossings, resulting in days of delays.Polish truckers say that unregulated activity by rapidly growing Ukrainian transport companies is ruining their business. After Russia’s invasion in February 2022, Ukraine has an increased need for imports and exports.Polish truckers want official permissions to be required of Ukrainian transport firms. Poland’s Infrastructure Ministry says such regulations would come under the European Union because Poland’s border with Ukraine is an EU border.Talks were being held between transport representatives in Poland’s eastern city of Chelm.Polish truckers are limiting the passage of trucks at the crossings in Dorohusk and Hrebenne, where the wait time now lasts almost two weeks. The Associated PressOntario patient ombudsman sees 33% surge in complaints

Ontario’s patient ombudsman says his office has seen a 33 per cent increase in complaints, and noted a “troubling” trend in problems accessing primary care.Craig Thompson, the province’s patient ombudsman, released his office’s annual report Wednesday with its findings. His office received 4,388 complaints over the 2022-23 year, 3,235 of those coming through its call centre and the remainder via written complaints. Hospitals, including the four main pediatric hospitals, became overrun last fall and winter with influenza, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, patients. The ombudsman’s data provides “insight as to what is working and, more importantly, what is not,” Thompson noted.“What is notable, and troubling, is the significant growth in non-jurisdictional complaints that are mostly related to primary care and echo some all-too-familiar themes: people are having trouble accessing primary care, have limited options for...Latest news
