Minn. Senate GOP offers new deal on Social Security tax, bonding

Minority Senate Republicans are pitching a revised deal to Democratic-Farmer-Labor lawmakers on Social Security income tax and infrastructure borrowing. Their move comes after a disagreement on the issues stopped a $1.9 billion infrastructure investment proposal from moving forward earlier this month.Now that legislative DFLers are taking action on tax bills, Senate Republicans came back to the table Monday with a new offer to revive the bonding bill, increase spending for long-term care and nursing homes, and eliminate Minnesota’s income tax on Social Security payments. It matches the current DFL budget framework calling for $3 billion in tax cuts and credits.“Senate Republicans aren’t here to just sit in our chairs and vote ‘no,’ we really do want to work and try to pull this thing together so we can come to a bipartisan agreement,” said Sen. ST. LOUIS – New information is coming to light about just how bad St. Louis's stolen car crisis has gotten. In a new lawsuit filed in federal court, the City of St. Louis blames automakers Kia and Hyundai for the suit calls an “epidemic” of vehicle thefts.Crime victims tell FOX 2 News there’s another piece to this: prosecuting the people who are actually stealing the cars. LOUIS - Following a deadly school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, several St. Louis area schools reported hoax threats.“These are easy to investigate,” said Jay Greenberg, special agent in charge for the St. Louis office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. “We will eventually find whoever is behind a threat and hold them accountable.”Greenberg said arrests were made in the St. Louis area and beyond following a spike in hoax threats after a deadly school shooting at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School in St. Louis.“If we bring charges federally, it will be a felony that will stick on somebody’s record for the rest of their life,” Greenberg said. UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. - Summer is quickly approaching, and people are wondering when the 90-year-old pool at Heman Park will reopen. It shut down last summer after historic flooding damaged the pool and park."I've been coming here for probably 50 years, and so stepkids, grandkids, everybody here," said Patrick Maloney. The Congressional Medal of Honor Society agrees with him.The prestigious organization has posthumously recognized Jean Kuczka as the recipient of the 2023 Citizen Hero Award.Jean, 61, was a beloved teacher at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School in south St. Louis. She earned national attention when it was learned that she selflessly shielded her students from a gunman on the morning of October 24, 2022. On Monday, authorities with the Fullerton Police Department released officer-worn camera footage of a fatal shooting of an unarmed suspect that occurred last month. The deadly incident unfolded on Feb. 10, just after 1 a.m. when officers spotted a vehicle in the area of Harbor Boulevard and Chapman Avenue that police say was wanted in connection with an armed robbery out of San Bernardino County. When authorities attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect, identified as Austin Heiselman, led officers on a pursuit through Fullerton and La Habra, according to a news release from Fullerton PD. During the pursuit, police said the suspect waved a handgun out of the window. At the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Imperial Avenue, in La Habra, the suspect ran a red light at a high rate of speed and struck another vehicle, causing his car to flip and catch on fire.
